Site Overview
The project will fully cap the historic landfill, covering its entire footprint to ensure environmental protection and long-term stability. The cap, closure, and incinerator demolition will incorporate imported BUD materials, which will be beneficially reused in the process.

Key Design Components
- Incinerator Demolition & Landfill Capping: Integrated approach to complete both projects efficiently.
- Removal of Former Transfer Station: Demolition and site cleanup to support long-term remediation.
- Self-Funded Project: Financed through the importation of Beneficial Use Determination (BUD) material.
- Elevation Compatibility: Final site grading designed to align with adjacent properties.
- Minimal Environmental Disturbance: Existing grades maintained to protect the Moshassuck River ecosystem.
- Stable Slope Design: Maximum slope limited to 3:1 for safety and stability.
- Zero Impact Goal: Measures in place to prevent disruption to nearby residents, including controls for visual impact, odor, and traffic.

Elements of a Landfill Cap
To ensure environmental safety and long-term site stability, the project will involve capping the landfill with a low- or impermeable liner, creating a protective barrier over the buried waste while minimizing stormwater infiltration.
The site will be filled, shaped, and graded using Beneficial Use Determination (BUD) material to promote proper stormwater runoff management. Additionally, stormwater controls will be installed around the landfill’s perimeter to protect downstream receptors from potential impacts. Once the cap is in place, long-term monitoring of both the landfill cover and the underlying groundwater will ensure continued environmental compliance and effectiveness.
